How a gas leak is traced and proven

Gas detection is a two part process and the second part is what matters. Electronic gas detectors and leak solution find the escape point, checking appliance connections, regulators, meter fittings and the buried or concealed runs between them. But the proof is a pressure test. The line is isolated and charged, and the gauge is watched over a set period. A line that holds pressure is sound, and a line that drops is still leaking regardless of what the detector found. That test is what allows the system to be signed off and put back into service. Where a leak is on a buried line, tracer gas and ground probes locate it the same way a water leak is located, without opening the ground to look.
